Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized remarks made by Donald Trump about Iran, particularly his comment suggesting the possible “end of a whole civilisation.” She said such statements reflect growing hostility from Western nations and that the world is taking notice. Posting on X, she contrasted what she described as unity among Iranians—who reportedly formed human chains to protect their resources—with what she called hateful and irresponsible rhetoric from the West. She argued that these developments have exposed the West’s moral shortcomings, adding that hatred, violence, and injustice never prevail, while courage ultimately does.
Pope Leo XIV also expressed concern, calling threats against civilians unacceptable and emphasizing that the situation is not only a matter of international law but also a serious moral issue affecting humanity. The remarks come after a series of controversial statements by Donald Trump on his platform Truth Social, where he warned of possible large-scale destruction in Iran amid escalating tensions and reported US strikes on key infrastructure. He also hinted at the possibility of regime change, suggesting that new leadership in Iran could bring positive transformation.
Despite the alarming tone, Trump later announced a temporary halt to military actions, proposing a two-week ceasefire. Iran reportedly accepted the proposal, agreeing to pause operations and allow safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. With both sides stepping back, there is renewed hope that the conflict, which began on March 28, may de-escalate and lead to peace in West Asia.
