Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tributes on Monday to legendary freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar on the occasion of their martyrdom day, remembering their extraordinary sacrifice and lasting contribution to India’s independence movement. In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister expressed deep reverence for the three revolutionaries, stating that the nation bows to their courage and selflessness. He emphasized that their martyrdom remains permanently etched in India’s collective memory and continues to serve as a powerful reminder of the price paid for freedom.
Highlighting their bravery, he noted that despite being very young, they displayed exceptional courage and an unwavering commitment to the cause of independence. He further pointed out that they stood fearless in the face of British colonial rule, choosing the path of sacrifice with firm conviction and placing the nation above their own lives. The Prime Minister also underlined that their ideals—justice, patriotism, and fearless resistance—continue to inspire generations across the country. Their legacy, he said, ignites a spirit of courage and national pride among citizens even today.
Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev were among the most iconic revolutionaries of India’s freedom struggle. They were executed by British authorities on March 23, 1931, at Lahore Jail. Their supreme sacrifice is commemorated every year as Shaheed Diwas, honoring their role in the Lahore Conspiracy Case and their fight against colonial oppression.
