'No Protester Will Be Left Alone': CJP Says Government Reaffirms Protection After Midnight Talks

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday claimed that fresh assurances from the Central Government have eased concerns over alleged police action against protesters, following a late-night meeting that lasted nearly three hours. The development comes just hours after the organisation warned it could revive its nationwide agitation over what it described as a breach of earlier commitments.

In a statement issued after the meeting, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said government representatives shared official notifications from the Bihar and Assam governments that reportedly guarantee the withdrawal of FIRs, the release of detained protesters, and protection from future legal action. We have been assured that no protester will be left alone, Das said, adding that similar notifications are expected to be issued by the Union Government and other BJPNDA-ruled states to ensure that demonstrators are not subjected to legal harassment.

The late-night discussions were held after CJP accused authorities of failing to honour an earlier agreement reached during negotiations that led to the suspension of the groups 37-day protest. The organisation had alleged that despite assurances, students and volunteers were still being detained, monitored, or facing police action in several states. According to CJP, the government has now reiterated its commitment to withdrawing pending cases against protesters and ensuring that no further coercive action is taken. Party leaders said they would continue monitoring the implementation of these assurances and remain in touch with affected protesters across different states.

The CJP-led movement emerged during nationwide protests over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and had made several demands, including action against those responsible, legal protection for protesters, and broader reforms in the education system. The protest at Delhis Jantar Mantar was called off after the government accepted several key demands, including assurances related to legal action against demonstrators.

While the latest round of talks appears to have reduced immediate tensions, CJP has made it clear that it expects the governments promises to be implemented without delay. The organisation has warned that if the assurances are not translated into concrete action, it reserves the right to resume protests in the coming days. The Centre has not yet issued a detailed public statement responding to CJPs latest claims. However, the midnight negotiations are being seen as an effort to maintain dialogue and prevent a fresh escalation of protests, with both sides expected to remain engaged over the implementation of the agreed measures.
