Rasmita Sahoo Mohapatra, mother of 22-year-old missing Merchant Navy cadet Sarthak Mohapatra, met Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Thursday, urging a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into her son’s disappearance. Sarthak, who was serving as a Deck Cadet on the vessel EA Jersey under Anglo-Eastern Ship Management Pvt Ltd, has been missing since February 3.
Speaking to ANI, Sahoo Mohapatra expressed frustration over the lack of CCTV footage, phone tracking, or video evidence despite repeated requests. She alleged that the Singapore-based company mishandled her son’s belongings, including his passport, and did not cooperate properly. “We have only received a missing report, not the CCTV, video, or phone tracing we asked for. That is why we are demanding a CBI inquiry. I want to know what happened to my child. The company did not cooperate and even mistreated us. My son’s belongings, including his passport, were not handed over correctly. I will keep fighting until I get the truth,” she said.
She added that the Governor assured her that a letter would be sent to the Union Home Minister and the Directorate General of Shipping to accelerate the investigation and provide answers to the family. “The Governor has promised to send letters to the Foreign Affairs Minister, Home Minister, and DG Shipping,” she said. Sarthak’s family had written to Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, seeking urgent intervention from both the central and state governments. A missing person’s report was filed at Sahidnagar police station in Bhubaneswar on February 5. Sarthak hails from Kespur in Bhadrak district.
