Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday strongly criticized leaders from the Indian National Congress and Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing them of using inappropriate and disrespectful language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated that such remarks reflect “arrogance and ignorance” and do not resonate well with the public.
Rijiju remarked that some opposition leaders mistakenly believe that targeting or abusing the Prime Minister will enhance their popularity. However, he argued that this approach only exposes their lack of basic decorum and understanding of public sentiment. He further added that the people of India continue to trust and support Modi’s leadership. Rijiju also shared a clip from his April 28 interview, where he emphasized that Modi’s influence has reached every part of the country and warned that leaders who attack him may see a decline in their political standing, as voters generally disapprove of such conduct.
His comments come in the context of the BJP’s strong performance in recent Assembly elections, particularly in West Bengal, where the party made significant electoral gains. According to Election Commission data, the BJP secured 206 seats, a substantial increase from its previous tally of 77 seats, marking a major political shift in the state. Addressing party workers at the BJP headquarters in Delhi during victory celebrations, Modi said the election results reflect the public’s preference for stability, especially during a time of global uncertainty and unrest. He noted that despite tensions worldwide, Indian voters chose a stable government.
Modi also highlighted that, for the first time in West Bengal, elections were conducted without any loss of innocent lives due to violence, stating that democracy triumphed over fear. He urged political workers to move forward constructively, focus on development rather than revenge, and work towards ending the cycle of political violence.
