Police in Teryath, Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, have taken into custody a balloon shaped like an aircraft that carried the inscription of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). The object was noticed within the jurisdiction of the Teryath Police Post, and officers promptly responded and secured it. Authorities later confirmed that the balloon-like item had no electrical or electronic devices attached. Further investigation is ongoing.
The Indian Army foiled several attempted drone incursions from across the border in the Poonch district along the Line of Control (LoC). Officials stated that at least two small quadcopters tried to breach Indian airspace between 5:45 am and 6:00 am on Sunday. Alert troops initiated swift counter-drone measures, forcing the drones to retreat.
The incident is part of a series of recent drone sightings reported along the LoC and the International Border. In response, security forces have stepped up surveillance and monitoring efforts. On February 23, two balloons carrying currency notes resembling US dollars and Pakistani rupees were discovered near the LoC in the Akhnoor sector, according to Jammu and Kashmir Police. An investigation was launched to verify the authenticity of the notes.
These incidents come amid heightened regional tensions, including cross-border strikes and escalating friction between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Earlier this week, Afghanistan’s Ministry of National Defence claimed it had conducted airstrikes on key military sites in Pakistan, including the Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi, stating the action was in retaliation for Pakistani air raids on Afghan territory.
