A Duty Magistrate at Patiala House Court granted bail to Indian Youth Congress President Udai Bhanu Chib following a late-night hearing held at the magistrate’s residence. Chib was produced before the court around 12:30 AM after completing four days in police custody in connection with the AI Summit protest case. Duty Magistrate Vanshika Mehta allowed his release on a bail bond of ₹50,000, subject to certain conditions. The Delhi Police had requested a seven-day extension of his custody, but the court declined the plea.
Advocates Mohammed Sulaiman, Rupesh Singh Bhadauria, and Chitwan Godara represented Chib. According to Advocate Sulaiman, the Delhi Police Crime Branch sought a seven-day extension of Chib’s police custody and also filed separate remand applications for two other accused. However, after hearing both sides, the court granted bail, noting that the police had failed to provide adequate justification for extending custody. The bail conditions require Chib to surrender his passport and electronic devices and furnish one surety of ₹50,000.
Advocate Bhadauria stated that this was not a fresh arrest, as Chib had already spent four days in custody. He described receiving late-night communication about the production and said the hearing began around 1:30 AM. while granting four days of police custody, the court observed that the case diary indicated Chib was not physically present at the protest site but was allegedly coordinating with other accused and directing the protest. The court also remarked that merely claiming sovereignty was compromised did not justify prolonged custody, stating that seven days was excessive and four days were sufficient. Chib was arrested by Delhi Police on the morning of February 24.
