India claimed two bronze medals at the Asia Cup Stage I archery tournament in Bangkok on Wednesday, with the women’s recurve and men’s compound teams finishing on the podium after impressive performances. The women’s recurve trio of Ruma Biswas, Kirti and Ridhi delivered a strong showing to defeat Malaysia 5-1 in the bronze medal match at the SAT Football Stadium. They had earlier secured third place in the qualification round with a combined score of 1915, led by Ruma’s 650. The team opened their campaign with a 6-2 win over Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals but suffered a 5-1 loss to China in the semi-finals. However, they bounced back confidently to clinch the bronze medal.
In the men’s compound team event, Rajat Chauhan, Uday Kamboj and Rishabh Yadav edged past Bhutan 234-232 in a closely contested bronze medal match. The Indian trio had earlier defeated Chinese Taipei 238-228 in the quarter-finals but narrowly lost to Vietnam 234-233 in the semi-finals. India had dominated the men’s compound qualification round, finishing at the top with a score of 2126. Rajat Chauhan led with 712, followed by Rishabh Yadav with 708 and Uday Kamboj with 706.
India’s medal hopes remain strong as the tournament progresses. The women’s compound and men’s recurve teams have already secured spots in the gold medal matches against Kazakhstan on Friday. Mixed team events are scheduled for Thursday, while individual finals will conclude on Friday. In individual events, Tejal Rajendra Salve will compete for bronze in women’s compound, while Prathamesh Jawkar and Uday Kamboj will face each other in an all-India men’s compound final. Rajat Chauhan may also add another medal, while Ridhi Phor will compete in the women’s recurve bronze match.
