Vinay Mohan Kwatra, India’s ambassador to the United States, hosted General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), at India House on Tuesday (local time) ahead of his scheduled engagements in Washington DC. The Embassy of India, Washington DC shared on X that the meeting was held as a precursor to the Army chief’s official discussions and interactions in the US capital.
Emphasising the strategic significance of the visit, the embassy highlighted that it is expected to further strengthen India–US defence relations, which remain a cornerstone of the broader comprehensive global strategic partnership between the two nations. It also underlined that such engagements contribute to advancing a shared vision of ensuring a free, open, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region amid evolving geopolitical dynamics.
On Monday (local time), General Dwivedi was accorded a formal Guard of Honour at Fort Shafter in Hawaii, marking an important milestone in his ongoing visit to the United States Army Pacific. During his visit, he held extensive discussions with General Ronald P. Clark, the Commanding General of USARPAC, along with other senior military leaders. These deliberations focused on enhancing bilateral defence cooperation, strengthening operational coordination, and promoting long-term peace and stability across the Indo-Pacific region.
In addition to high-level meetings, General Dwivedi undertook an aerial tour of Oahu Island, where he observed advanced US military training infrastructure. The visit provided him with valuable insights into modern warfare preparedness, including jungle and littoral combat training, as well as integrated multi-domain operations involving land, air, sea, cyber, and space capabilities. His visit follows recent high-level defence interactions, including Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh being hosted by General Kenneth Wilsbach at the Pentagon earlier this month, reflecting deepening military ties between the two countries.
