India's Ambassador-Designate to Ukraine Anjani Kumar Submits Copy of Credentials to Deputy Foreign Minister Mischenko

India’s Ambassador-designate to Ukraine, Anjani Kumar, has presented a copy of his Letter of Credence to Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Olexandr Mischenko, as New Delhi and Kyiv look to further deepen their bilateral engagement. Kumar submitted the document during a meeting with Mischenko at Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The discussions focused on strengthening relations between the two countries, according to the Indian Embassy in Ukraine.

The embassy shared details of the meeting in a post on X on Monday, stating that the two officials discussed avenues for further expanding bilateral cooperation. The development comes amid continued diplomatic engagement between India and Ukraine over the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and international efforts to find a lasting resolution. On July 30, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke by phone with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. During the conversation, Sybiha briefed Jaishankar on the latest developments surrounding the conflict and the ongoing peace negotiations.

Jaishankar said India had consistently supported dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred route for resolving the crisis. He also pointed to the broader consequences of conflicts around the world, particularly their impact on fuel, fertiliser and food security in developing countries. The Indian External Affairs Minister noted that the global situation remained fragile amid conflicts in several regions and stressed that their repercussions were being felt well beyond the areas directly involved.

Both ministers agreed to maintain contact as discussions on the conflict and peace efforts continue. Sybiha also confirmed the conversation, saying he updated Jaishankar on the outcome of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent visit to Washington, where he met US President Donald Trump. The Ukrainian foreign minister said the two sides exchanged information about their recent diplomatic engagements and discussed the wider consequences of the ongoing war.

The prolonged conflict has contributed to instability in international energy markets, with effects extending beyond Europe. He reiterated Ukraine’s objective of securing a comprehensive and lasting peace and called on India to contribute actively to international peace efforts. The two sides agreed to remain in close communication. The appointment of Anjani Kumar and his latest diplomatic engagement come at a time when India continues to maintain dialogue with both Ukraine and other stakeholders involved in efforts to address the conflict.
