India has strongly rejected Pakistans claims blaming it for a series of devastating attacks in Balochistan, calling them a blatant attempt to divert attention from Islamabads internal shortcomings. The violence erupted late last month with coordinated suicide bombings and gunfire targeting police stations, banks, and security convoys across Pakistans restive Balochistan province. Officials reported over 120 people killed, including civilians and forces personnel, in what marked one of the deadliest phases of the long-running insurgency.
Pakistan quickly accused India—and even Afghanistan—of backing the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), the separatist group that claimed responsibility via videos showing their operations. In response, Indias Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal labeled the allegations baseless and frivolous, urging Pakistan to address its own failures like human rights abuses and economic neglect in the mineral-rich region instead. Pakistans military has since launched a major counteroffensive, claiming to have killed 145 militants, including women fighters, amid curfews and heightened security.
Balochistans troubles trace back decades, fueled by local demands for autonomy amid grievances over resource exploitation—such as gas fields and the China-backed Gwadar port that many say benefits outsiders more than locals. This latest flare-up echoes past India-Pakistan blame games, like post-Pulwama tensions, against a backdrop of nuclear-armed rivalry. The U.S. has condemned the attacks as terrorism, designating the BLA accordingly, which could add international pressure on Pakistan. As troops pour in, the cycle of violence raises questions about lasting solutions through dialogue or development.
