A shocking case of road rage has claimed the life of a government labour officer after the son of a local DMK leader allegedly rammed his car into a family over a minor parking issue. The incident, which unfolded late Sunday night in Annai Aravindan Nagar, has sparked widespread outrage and renewed debates on road safety and political accountability.
The trouble began when 20-year-old Adithya, accompanied by friends Rithik Kumar and Harish (both 19), grazed a two-wheeler parked outside the home of P. Sivamoorthy, a 57-year-old assistant labour inspector. Sivamoorthy, along with his son Kirubakaran (35), daughter-in-law Amsaveni (33), and granddaughter Nilani (6), came out to address the matter. Police reports indicate the youths, reportedly under the influence, escalated the situation by damaging the bike and waving a stick aggressively. In a horrifying turn, Adithya accelerated his car directly into the family. Sivamoorthy suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene, while the others sustained minor hurts.
We were just moving the bike when they attacked, Kirubakaran told reporters, describing his fathers attempt at a calm resolution. Neighbors rushed to aid the victims as the accused fled initially, but were soon tracked down. The familys grief has struck a chord locally, with many decrying how a routine evening spiraled into tragedy.
Hosur police arrested the trio on Monday, filing a murder case under BNS provisions. Adithya is the son of Srinivasan, a DMK district committee member and former councillor. Krishnagiri SP P. Thangadurai confirmed investigations into drunk driving and premeditation are underway, with the accused remanded to custody.
The case has fueled political heat. BJP Tamil Nadu chief Nainar Nagendran accused the DMK of breeding impunity among its ranks, while AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami criticized CM MK Stalin for lax law enforcement. Similar incidents involving party-linked individuals have previously drawn scrutiny, amplifying calls for impartial justice. This tragedy underscores Indias rising road rage deaths—up sharply per recent NCRB figures—often triggered by everyday disputes like parking in dense urban areas. Authorities urge de-escalation and reporting to prevent further loss. Updates to follow as the investigation progresses.
