A 25-year-old woman was killed in a road accident in Ambala, Haryana, after she was allegedly hit by a car driven by a police officer who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, officials said on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Nikita. Her body was brought to the Civil Hospital in Ambala late on Tuesday night. Dr. D.D. Pandey of Civil Hospital stated that the hospital received the body of the young woman at around 9:30 PM. He confirmed that the body was later shifted to the mortuary and that the police have begun an investigation into the incident. Authorities are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the accident.
An eyewitness, Ravinder Singh, who drives an e-rickshaw, claimed that the incident occurred while he was returning from Ambala Cantt with four passengers. According to Singh, a speeding car driven by a police officer collided with his e-rickshaw. He alleged that the impact caused the woman to fall onto the road, after which the vehicle ran over her. Singh further claimed that the police officer appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the accident.
The victim’s brother, Mayank, also alleged that the officer was driving under the influence of alcohol. He said his elder sister, Nitika, worked in Gurugram and was returning from Delhi when the accident took place. He accused the police officer of recklessly driving the vehicle that fatally injured her. The incident has sparked concern, and further details are awaited as the investigation continues. Authorities have not yet released an official statement confirming the allegations of intoxication.
