Harrison Ford expressed deep admiration for Michael J. Fox as he returns to acting in the Apple TV+ series Shrinking. Fox, best known for Back to the Future, is back on screen for the first time since 2020, and Ford highlighted the actor’s enduring courage and wit—especially as someone who’s lived with Parkinson’s disease since 1991. Speaking to People, the 82-year-old Ford said that Fox’s participation in the show is not only inspiring but adds real meaning to their work together. “It’s more than just two actors teaming up—we’re telling a story, and our shared commitment to that story is what connects us,” he explained, praising Fox for choosing to be part of the project.
In the series, Ford plays Dr. Paul Rhoades, a therapist coping with a Parkinson’s diagnosis. He acknowledged that Fox’s presence and experience subtly influence his own portrayal of the condition. “There are probably small things that will emerge later on,” Ford noted, adding that the cast worked together to meet the creative and emotional goals of the show. He clarified that while his character’s stage of the disease differs from Fox’s, Michael remains mentally sharp and emotionally present. “His humor and bravery really shine through,” Ford said.
Harrison also emphasized how seriously he takes his role, aiming to depict the reality of Parkinson’s with honesty and sensitivity. “This isn’t meant to be comedic, though humor and wisdom can coexist with hardship,” he said. “Michael is uniquely capable of expressing what it’s like to live with Parkinson’s—and that’s something I believe is valuable to share with audiences.”
