At least five people lost their lives and two sustained serious injuries following a helicopter crash in Uttarakhands Uttarkashi district on Thursday, as reported by ANI. The accident occurred near Ganganani, a border area in Uttarkashi. The helicopter was carrying six passengers along with the captain when the crash took place. The exact cause behind the tragic incident is still unknown.
Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey confirmed that a rescue operation is actively in progress. Teams from the local administration and relief departments have reached the site and are working to assist those affected. The identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed. In response to the incident, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the district administration were immediately dispatched to the crash site to conduct rescue and relief operations.
He further mentioned that instructions have been given to ensure the injured receive all necessary medical assistance and that a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash will be carried out. This tragic event has raised concerns over flight safety in the hilly terrain of Uttarakhand, where weather conditions and difficult geography often pose significant challenges to aerial transportation.
