External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is visiting the United States to participate in the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 30 and 31. The meeting is being hosted by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio under the American presidency of the G20. During the visit, Jaishankar is also scheduled to attend a Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting and hold bilateral discussions with several international counterparts. The engagements are expected to provide an opportunity to discuss key global and regional developments, including economic cooperation, energy security and geopolitical challenges.
The G20 meeting comes at a time when countries are facing growing concerns over international conflicts, disruptions to supply chains, energy availability and economic uncertainty. Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening global cooperation, ensuring reliable energy supplies, improving economic resilience and addressing emerging technological challenges.
Energy security is likely to remain an important issue for India. As a major importer of crude oil and natural gas, India has a strong interest in maintaining stable international energy markets and protecting essential shipping routes. Disruptions to these networks can affect fuel prices, trade and industrial activity. Jaishankars participation in the Quad meeting will also be significant. The grouping, comprising India, the United States, Japan and Australia, works on regional security, maritime cooperation, infrastructure development and critical technologies. The foreign ministers are expected to review their cooperation and discuss developments affecting stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
Alongside the multilateral meetings, Jaishankar is expected to hold bilateral talks with foreign ministers from participating countries. Such discussions are an important part of Indias diplomatic engagement, allowing New Delhi to address shared concerns and strengthen relationships with key international partners. After completing his engagements in the United States, Jaishankar is scheduled to travel to St Johns, Antigua and Barbuda, to lead Indias delegation at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) from November 1 to 4. The summit will focus on accelerating partnerships and investment to promote prosperity among Commonwealth members.
The G20 Leaders Summit is scheduled to take place in Miami, Florida, on December 14 and 15, under the US presidency. The Atlanta ministerial discussions are expected to contribute to preparations for the leaders meeting. Jaishankars visit highlights Indias continued engagement with major international groupings as it seeks to strengthen diplomatic partnerships and address important issues involving global economic stability, energy security and regional cooperation.
