A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area after she went to meet a 17-year-old boy she knew, police said. Four people, including three minors, have been apprehended in connection with the case. According to investigators, the incident took place in north Delhi, and the girl’s body was later found in an open field near Kushak Road. Police said the body had been concealed under leaves and mud. The teenager was reported to have suffered multiple stab injuries, with investigators saying she was stabbed more than six times.
Police said the teenager had gone to meet the 17-year-old suspect, who allegedly called three other youths after she reached the area. Investigators allege that the group sexually assaulted the girl and later took her towards a field, where she was attacked with knives. Police are still examining the precise sequence of events and the individual role of each accused.
The girl’s body was discovered on September 13 after local residents noticed it in the field. By then, the body was reportedly in an advanced state of decomposition. Police said her identity was established with assistance from people in the area and her family. The investigation received a breakthrough through CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Police examined footage from numerous cameras and tracked a tempo that had been seen near the suspected crime scene. The vehicles movements helped investigators identify and locate the suspects, according to police.
A 19-year-old man identified by police as Shivam Ganesh was arrested, while three other suspects aged 16 and 17 were apprehended. Police said two knives and clothing allegedly connected with the crime were recovered and sent for forensic examination. An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Investigators are examining forensic and technical evidence to reconstruct the incident and determine the role of each suspect. The investigation remains underway, and police have said they are also checking whether any other person was involved. The allegations against the accused will be tested through the ongoing legal proceedings.
