Delhi Metro Pink Line Bypasses Soorghat Station: No Entry-Exit on India's First Ring Route

Delhis groundbreaking ring metro on the Pink Line has hit a minor roadblock, with trains bypassing the Soorghat station near Wazirabad—no entry or exit allowed for now. Launched just days ago as Indias first circular metro line, the network promises seamless citywide loops, but this station remains off-limits due to pending access ramps.
Officials from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) cite incomplete infrastructure as the culprit: a crucial subway linking the station to a nearby Public Works Department (PWD) flyover and underpass is still under construction. While the elevated platform and viaduct are fully built, the underground connector—now being handled by DMRC—wont open until late 2026. Trains speed past with clear onboard alerts, such as at the prior Nanaksar Sonia Vihar stop, informing riders of the skip to avoid confusion.
This comes hot on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra Modis inauguration on March 8 of the 12.3 km Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur extension, completing the Pink Lines 71.56 km loop with 46 stations. Modeled after the Inner Ring Road, it connects North and East Delhi hotspots like Burari, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, and Khajuri Khas, enabling change-free travel across the city. Engineering highlights include a Yamuna bridge and innovative double-decker sections merging metro tracks with highways, boosting the total DMRC network beyond 400 km.
Commuters in the area, including those from Sonia Vihar and Kamla Nagar, are adapting with e-rickshaws or buses to nearby Yellow Line stations, often paying ₹50 extra. One local rider noted the frustration but praised the DMRC apps real-time updates on skips and routes. With over 40 interchanges, the ring still cuts travel times dramatically—for instance, looping from Maujpur back to Majlis Park without hassle. DMRCs phased approach prioritizes mainline operations, a tactic used successfully before. Full Soorghat access by year-end will benefit thousands in Wazirabad, linking them directly to central areas like Lajpat Nagar. For now, riders are urged to check apps for alternatives amid Delhis growing transit evolution.
