Light showers swept across parts of the national capital on Wednesday, offering relief after an extended spell of unseasonably warm weather. Visuals from Moti Bagh and Rajokri village captured rain-soaked roads as residents moved through the drizzle. The India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for the day and projected a slight drop in temperatures. Despite the rainfall, the overall air quality in the city remained in the poor category.
In a post on X, the IMD announced an orange nowcast alert for several districts of north Rajasthan, predicting light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40 to 60 kmph over the next three hours. A yellow alert for light rainfall was also issued for Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, and west Madhya Pradesh during the same period.
The weather office further indicated that light rain or drizzle was very likely across Delhi and the National Capital Region on Wednesday, with afternoon winds expected to blow at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph. It also forecast light rainfall in parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan within the next two hours, covering multiple towns across these states.
The rainfall comes after temperatures climbed well above seasonal norms. On Monday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 31.6 degrees Celsius, the highest of the year so far, nearly 7 degrees above the usual average. Among various stations, Ayanagar reported the highest minimum temperature at 13.8 degrees Celsius, while Safdarjung, the city’s main observatory, recorded a minimum of 12.4 degrees Celsius. With the fresh spell of rain, residents are expected to get short-term relief from the heat, as authorities continue to keep a watch on gusty winds and localized showers across the NCR and nearby regions.
