Intelligence agencies on Thursday revealed a larger terror plot linked to the deadly Delhi blast, involving plans to use more vehicles with explosives for coordinated attacks across multiple locations. Sources said the investigation expanded after it was discovered that the accused had already begun modifying an i20 and an EcoSport for potential attacks. Authorities are now probing whether additional vehicles were being prepared as part of a broader scheme for serial blasts.
“After the i20 and EcoSport, preparations were underway to ready two more older vehicles for explosives,” an intelligence source told ANI. Around eight suspects were allegedly preparing simultaneous attacks at four locations, moving in pairs with multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) assigned to each target city. Among those under investigation are individuals connected to previous terror cases, including Red Fort blast accused Dr. Muzammil, Dr. Adeel, Dr. Umar, and Shaheen.
Police reportedly foiled the major conspiracy. The accused had raised about Rs 20 lakh in cash, handed over to Umar for operational expenses, which was allegedly used to procure over 20 quintals of NPK fertilizer worth around Rs 3 lakh from Gurugram, Nuh, and nearby areas to prepare IEDs. Umar also created a Signal app group with two to four members to coordinate activities securely.
Sources stated that Dr. Muzammil had developed links with Ansar Gazwat-Ul-Hind, an ISIS offshoot, between 2021 and 2022 through associates of slain terrorists. He was introduced to the network by one Irfan, alias Maulvi. Weapons recovered in 2023 and 2024 are believed to have been acquired by this module as part of forming an independent terror group. Investigators continue to trace the broader network and believe the attack was planned for the near future.
On Wednesday, Faridabad Police seized a red EcoSport (DL 10 CK 0458) believed to be linked to prime suspect Dr. Umar Un Nabi, found near Khandawali village. Delhi Police later confirmed that Dr. Umar carried out the Red Fort car blast after forensic DNA testing matched his remains with his mother’s DNA. Senior officials said Umar’s leg was found trapped between the steering wheel and accelerator, confirming he was behind the wheel at the time of the explosion. DNA samples of his mother and brother, collected and tested at AIIMS, conclusively identified the deceased as Dr. Umar Un Nabi.
