Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh arrived in Yerevan on August 16, 2026, for a two-day official visit focused on strengthening India-Armenia defence and strategic cooperation. His visit is aimed at taking forward the growing partnership between New Delhi and Yerevan and identifying new areas of collaboration.
Singh was received in Armenia by India’s Ambassador to the country and senior representatives of the Armenian Ministry of Defence. According to India’s Ministry of Defence, the Defence Secretary will hold discussions with Armenian leaders to develop a roadmap for future cooperation in the defence and strategic sectors. The visit comes as India and Armenia continue to expand high-level defence engagement. Earlier this year, Armenia’s Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Edvard Asryan, visited New Delhi on April 28 for official discussions with Indian defence officials.
During his India visit, Asryan met Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in the defence domain. He also held talks with Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh a day earlier. Asryan subsequently met then Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan to explore opportunities for greater collaboration, including potential joint ventures and the co-development of military hardware.
Singh’s current visit to Armenia is expected to build on these recent engagements and provide fresh momentum to bilateral defence relations. The two countries are increasingly looking at opportunities to expand cooperation in defence technology, military equipment and strategic areas. The latest diplomatic engagement highlights the growing importance both sides attach to defence cooperation and their interest in developing a broader, long-term strategic partnership.
