Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir (JK) remains incomplete without Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), emphasizing that the region is an integral part of India. Speaking at an ex-servicemen rally in Akhnoor, he highlighted the plight of people in PoK, stating that they suffer from religious discrimination and lack of a dignified life under Pakistan’s administration. Singh criticized Pakistan for using PoK as a hub for terrorist activities, revealing that terrorist training camps and launch pads are actively operating in the region. He warned that the Indian government is fully aware of these activities and assured that appropriate action would be taken to safeguard national security.
During his address, Singh also commended Indian Army veterans for their sacrifices and reiterated the government’s commitment to their welfare. He assured the gathering that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) places a high priority on the well-being of both veterans and active soldiers, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the nation even after retirement. As part of his visit, Singh inaugurated a heritage museum in Akhnoor, which showcases weapons from past conflicts and honors war heroes. The museum stands as a tribute to Indias military history and the bravery of its soldiers.
Reflecting on historical events, the Defence Minister remarked that if India had capitalized on tactical advantages during the 1965 war with Pakistan, the issue of cross-border terrorism could have been addressed much earlier. He expressed regret over missed opportunities that could have strengthened Indias security posture. Singh also acknowledged the contributions of India’s Muslim community in the fight against terrorism. He pointed out that over 80% of infiltrating militants originate from Pakistan, and he praised Indian Muslims for standing against extremist forces. His remarks align with India’s long-standing position on PoK, reinforcing New Delhi’s claim over the region and condemning Pakistan’s role in fueling unrest. Through his speech, Singh once again underlined India’s firm stance on territorial integrity and national security.
