Former Jammu and Kashmir DGP Shesh Paul Vaid, speaking on the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, praised the mission and said it showcased India’s emergence as a “superpower” on the global stage. He told ANI that Indian forces carried out precise strikes deep inside Pakistan, destroying nine terror camps without causing civilian harm.
He added that when Pakistan responded by targeting civilian and military areas, India retaliated by striking around 11 to 12 Pakistani airbases, severely damaging their capability. According to Vaid, Pakistan was left powerless in the face of India’s BrahMos missile system. He also said that this assessment is not only his own but is echoed by international defence experts who monitor global conflicts, crediting the operation for significantly boosting India’s global stature. He further noted that the success was possible due to the political leadership giving full operational freedom to the armed forces.
Retired Lieutenant General Rakesh Sharma also paid tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and praised the armed forces for their response under Operation Sindoor, calling it a strong message to Pakistan and a highly effective military operation that brought Pakistan to its knees within four days. The report states that Operation Sindoor was launched after the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people. Indian forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, reportedly eliminating over 100 terrorists linked to groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also marked the anniversary by praising the armed forces, calling the operation a symbol of national resolve, precision, and joint military strength. He said it reflects India’s growing self-reliance and operational readiness. Following the strikes, Pakistan reportedly responded with drone and shelling attacks, leading to a brief four-day escalation. India retaliated by destroying key radar installations, after which both sides’ military operations directorates communicated and agreed to a ceasefire on May 10.
