A traffic police officer was allegedly dragged out of his private car and brutally assaulted by a group of bikers following a road rage incident in Maharashtras Nagpur. The attack, which was caught on CCTV, has led to the arrest of 14 people, police said. The incident took place late on the night of June 28 near Mankapur Chowk. According to investigators, the 35-year-old officer was travelling in his personal vehicle with a female companion when an argument reportedly broke out after the car and one of the motorcycles came into minor contact.
Police said around seven to eight motorcycle riders blocked the officers vehicle before surrounding it. The group allegedly forced him out of the car and repeatedly punched and kicked him in full public view. CCTV footage of the incident reportedly shows the officer being dragged across the road as the attackers continued the assault. After attacking the officer, the accused allegedly vandalised his car before fleeing the spot on their motorcycles. Passers-by later came to the officers rescue and shifted him to a private hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Officials said he sustained serious injuries in the assault.
Following the incident, Nagpur Police launched an investigation using CCTV footage and technical evidence. The probe led to the identification and arrest of 14 accused. Police officials said some of those arrested have previous criminal records, and multiple two-wheelers along with other material connected to the case have been seized. Authorities have registered a case under relevant provisions of the law and are continuing their investigation to determine the individual role of each accused. Police are also examining whether additional persons were involved in the attack.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the rising number of violent road rage cases across the country, where minor traffic disputes are increasingly escalating into serious criminal offences. Investigators have appealed to motorists to avoid confrontations on the road and report disputes to the police instead of resorting to violence.
