Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed renewed optimism about the revival of tourism in the Union Territory following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, most of them tourists. Speaking at a travel and tourism event, Abdullah acknowledged that 2025 has been a difficult year, marked by the events before and after the Pahalgam attack. However, he emphasized that there is a strong sense of hope, and tourism is beginning to recover. Tourism in JK is rebounding, and that brings a positive message, he said.
He also highlighted the enduring bond between West Bengal and Jammu Kashmir, saying the support from West Bengal has been both political and economic, rooted in trust and affection. JK continues to offer adventure and destination tourism, he noted, and theres a growing feeling on the ground that a new chapter is beginning. Addressing concerns about safety, Abdullah assured that all necessary measures have been put in place to protect tourists.
I understand the anxiety following the Pahalgam incident, but I urge everyone to listen to those who have recently returned from the area. We have made it safe for tourists, he said. He mentioned that the Amarnath Yatra is ongoing and that there’s been a rise in direct flight connections to JK. I’m here in Kolkata to promote tourism. Travel to Pahalgam is open now, Abdullah added, noting that security audits are underway in some areas to ensure a secure environment for visitors.
