The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Saturday honoured the personnel who lost their lives in the 2019 terror attack in Pulwama, remembering their courage, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice for the nation. In a message shared on X, the force stated that the bravery of the 40 fallen soldiers will always be remembered and expressed solidarity with their families.
Narendra Modi paid tribute to the martyrs, saying their service and determination continue to inspire the country. He noted that their sacrifice remains deeply embedded in the collective memory of the nation and serves as a source of strength for all Indians. C. P. Radhakrishnan also honoured the fallen personnel, emphasizing that their sacrifice is permanently recorded in India’s history and motivates citizens to contribute toward a stronger and safer nation.
Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi expressed his respect, stating that the country will always remain grateful to the brave soldiers who gave their lives defending the nation. Similarly, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge paid tribute, highlighting their unwavering courage and commitment, and affirmed that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
The attack took place in the Jammu and Kashmir district of Pulwama on February 14, 2019, when a convoy of 78 buses carrying around 2,500 CRPF personnel was travelling along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway. A suicide bomber targeted one of the vehicles, killing 40 personnel in one of the deadliest attacks on Indian security forces. The Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility for the bombing. In response, India carried out counter-terror operations, including airstrikes on terrorist camps across the border, marking a major escalation in tensions.
