The Bhopal Metro Project has entered a new stage with the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) officially beginning underground tunnel construction on Monday. This tunnel work, a crucial part of the project, was inaugurated in the presence of MPMRCL officials and staff. A Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) was deployed to kick off excavation, with officials noting that its advanced technology will enable safe, precise, and faster construction in densely populated urban areas.
MPMRCL Managing Director S Krishna Chaitanya congratulated the project team on this milestone, stressing the importance of maintaining progress and completing all work on schedule while upholding strict safety and quality standards. The TBM was successfully lowered to a depth of around 24 meters to start the tunneling process. Its sophisticated design is intended to ensure rapid, accurate, and safe excavation, which is expected to accelerate construction. The Bhopal Metro Project aims to deliver a modern, safe, and eco-friendly public transport system to the city. The commencement of underground construction marks a significant advancement in the project’s overall progress.
The first phase of the Bhopal Metro was inaugurated on December 22 by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, representing a major step in enhancing the state capital’s urban transport. This phase, part of the Orange Line Priority Corridor, covers seven kilometers and features eight elevated stations, providing fast, reliable, and convenient connectivity that will greatly improve daily commuting for residents.
