Bengaluru Traffic Police Invites Citizens to Become 'Cop for a Day' and Experience Traffic Management Up Close

The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) has brought back its “Cop for a Day” initiative, giving citizens an opportunity to step into the shoes of traffic personnel and observe the challenges of managing the city’s increasingly busy roads. The programme is designed to provide participants with a practical, ground-level understanding of traffic management. It will also give citizens a platform to share their experiences, suggestions and feedback on improving road safety and traffic movement across Bengaluru.

Those interested can register through the BTP ASTraM app. Announcing the initiative on X, the traffic police encouraged residents to participate and described it as an opportunity to “experience, understand and participate” in efforts to make Bengaluru’s roads safer. Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy said the programme had previously received a positive response and has now been reintroduced. He said the initiative would allow police officials to hear directly from citizens and better understand their perspectives on traffic-related issues.

According to Reddy, citizen participation can help identify practical ways to make traffic management more efficient and improve safety on the city’s roads. Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge also appealed to Bengaluru residents to take part. Describing the programme as a hands-on experience, he said it would help participants understand what goes into managing traffic in a rapidly expanding city.

Kharge said participants would get an opportunity to learn about traffic operations and work alongside traffic officers while observing and assisting with managing the movement of vehicles. The “Cop for a Day” programme was initially launched in November-December last year. Following its earlier run, the Bengaluru Traffic Police has now decided to bring the initiative back to give more citizens an opportunity to experience traffic management from the perspective of those responsible for keeping the citys roads moving.
