Assam Police arrested four individuals for vandalizing St. Mary’s English School in Nalbari on Christmas Day. According to officials, the incident occurred on Wednesday when the accused entered the school premises and damaged exterior decorations, streetlights, plant pots, and other items. Some objects were also set on fire. A case has been registered at Belsor Police Station, and the motive behind the act was reportedly to disrupt Christmas celebrations.
Following the incident, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi strongly condemned the vandalism. In a firm statement, he claimed such acts stem from what he described as a “politics of hatred” promoted by the BJP-led government. He urged the people of Assam to remain cautious of what he called “provocative actions by vested interests,” adding that the incident represented a direct assault on constitutional values and an attempt to divide society. Despite the incident, Christmas was celebrated across the country with enthusiasm and festive spirit. The occasion was marked by candle lighting, carol singing, and expressions of love and unity that embody the true spirit of the festival.
Cities throughout India were illuminated with decorations as streets and homes were adorned with lights, wreaths, bells, and ornaments. In Kolkata, large crowds gathered along Park Street, while celebrations were also seen in Lucknow’s Hazratganj and at St. Mary’s Garrison Church in Jammu. Manali’s Mall Road became a lively center of music and dance as families and visitors joined in the festivities.
Marketplaces were transformed into colorful holiday scenes, featuring Christmas trees, stars, bells, wreaths, and Santa Claus displays. The season created a sense of shared joy and excitement across communities nationwide. Observed annually on December 25, Christmas commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ and symbolizes peace, love, compassion, and togetherness. Families celebrate by sharing meals, exchanging gifts, singing carols, and spreading warmth during the winter season.
