Asaduddin Owaisi said on Sunday that the Congress was among those responsible for the 1947 Partition, rejecting the idea that Muslims were to blame. Speaking at a rally in Limbayat, Gujarat, he referred to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s book India Wins Freedom, noting that Azad had appealed to Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru to prevent the country’s division.
He also criticized the Congress and the All India Trinamool Congress for labeling his party, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, as the BJP’s “B-team” in West Bengal. Defending AIMIM’s decision to contest 11 seats, he argued that other parties were fielding candidates in far more constituencies and challenged them to focus on defeating the BJP instead of questioning his participation.
Owaisi presented AIMIM as a party capable of standing up to the BJP within constitutional limits and asserting the rights of marginalized communities. Earlier, at a rally in Asansol, he blamed the Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the BJP’s growing strength in the state, alleging that their governance has contributed to the party’s rise. He further accused the state government of neglecting minority-dominated regions, claiming these areas lack basic infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, doctors, clean water, and support for farmers, with women facing particularly severe challenges.
