Artillery Regiment Launches Motorcycle Expedition from Drass to Mark 27 Years of Operation Vijay

To honour the courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment of the Indian Armed Forces, the Regiment of Artillery has launched a motorcycle expedition from the Kargil War Memorial in Drass. The initiative marks the 27th anniversary of Operation Vijay and celebrates 200 years of the Regiment of Artillerys distinguished service. The expedition features 20 motorcyclists drawn from units that participated in the 1999 Kargil War. During the journey, the riders will travel through Ladakhs historic battlefields, gun positions and remote frontier regions, paying tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives during the conflict while recognising the service of personnel who continue to protect Indias borders.

The expedition was flagged off by the Deputy General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Artillery Brigade at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass. The ceremony was attended by Drass Deputy Commissioner, Councillor Abdul Samad, NCC cadets, Army officers, soldiers and a large gathering of local residents, highlighting the close relationship between the Indian Army and the people of Ladakh.

The event is being conducted under the leadership of Major General Arvind Yadav, VSM, Additional Director General and Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Artillery. As part of the expedition, the riders will revisit locations linked to key battles fought during Operation Vijay while interacting with communities across Ladakh. According to the Army, the journey serves as a tribute to the extraordinary bravery displayed by Indian soldiers during the Kargil War and reflects the proud heritage of the Regiment of Artillery. Guided by its motto, Sarvatra Izzat-O-Iqbal, the expedition retraces the rugged terrain where Indian troops demonstrated exceptional determination and battlefield excellence.

The expedition will conclude on August 14 with a flag-in ceremony expected to be presided over by the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena. Residents of Drass participated enthusiastically in the flag-off event, turning out in significant numbers to honour the sacrifices of the Kargil War heroes. Beyond commemorating a landmark victory in Indias military history, the expedition also celebrates the enduring legacy of the armed forces and the commitment of generations of soldiers safeguarding the nations sovereignty.
