Around 150–200 tourists have been stranded in Chungthang in North Sikkim after multiple landslides caused by heavy rainfall, District Collector Anant Jain reported. He stated that landslides blocked major routes between Gangtok and Lachen, as well as between Chungthang and Lachen, leaving travelers heading to Lachen stuck in Chungthang. The stranded tourists are currently being accommodated at an ITBP camp and a gurudwara.
Movement towards Lachen remains suspended due to road blockages at several locations. Authorities will review the situation and may resume travel once weather conditions improve and routes are declared safe. Meanwhile, the road to Lachung has been cleared, allowing tourists from that area to return safely to Gangtok. Officials continue to monitor the situation closely as intermittent rainfall persists in the region, and further updates are awaited.
A strong thunderstorm with hail affected parts of Pakyong, Gangtok, and Mangan districts, disrupting power supply after several 66 kV transmission lines tripped. In Pakyong, a conductor of the Rorathang–Rongli line snapped near Amba, impacting Rongli and Rhenock. In Gangtok, sparking and a loud noise were reported near Namli on the Marchak–Macleods line, affecting Nimtar, Topakhani, and Singtam. Additionally, the LLHP–Sichey transmission line could not be sustained during trial charging.
