Amazon is reportedly in discussions to acquire artificial intelligence startup Decart in a deal worth approximately $7 billion, according to a report published by The Wall Street Journal on Sunday, which cited people familiar with the negotiations. Decart has developed Lucy, an AI model supported by Nvidia that can modify live video in real time, according to the companys website. The startup has also created Oasis, a model designed to generate simulated environments that can help train and test robotics systems and autonomous-driving technologies.
The company was valued at nearly $4 billion in May, according to PitchBook data cited by the Journal. A potential acquisition by Amazon would therefore represent a significant increase over its reported valuation earlier this year. Amazon declined to comment outside regular business hours, while Decart did not respond to requests for comment.
The Journal reported that an agreement could be reached soon, provided negotiations continue smoothly and no competing bidder emerges. However, the discussions remain uncertain, and a deal is not guaranteed. The reported talks follow earlier interest from Anthropic, which ultimately decided against pursuing an acquisition after completing due diligence, according to a Bloomberg News report last month. Anthropic had reportedly explored a potential $6 billion deal in August.
In May, Decart raised $300 million in a funding round led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia participating as a new investor. The reported negotiations highlight growing interest in AI companies developing technologies for real-time video generation, simulated environments and advanced robotics. For Amazon, an acquisition could potentially strengthen its AI capabilities, although the companies have not confirmed any agreement.
