Akhilesh Yadav on Monday strongly criticized the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the ongoing electricity crisis, accusing the ruling party of attempting to distract people from growing anger through political tactics and cabinet changes. In a sharply-worded post on X, Yadav alleged that BJP MLAs and MPs were trying to protect themselves from public backlash caused by what he called a “Maha Power Disaster” in the state. He claimed that letters being written by ruling party leaders were not intended to address public concerns, but were instead meant to safeguard their political future before the upcoming elections.
According to Yadav, the severe power cuts during the intense summer heat have made life increasingly difficult for the elderly, children, women, and sick people. He accused the government of ignoring the suffering of ordinary citizens while focusing on political interests. The Samajwadi Party chief further remarked that leaders who once tried to gain politically from crises are now facing the consequences of supporting officials who themselves have become a source of trouble. He also questioned why the public should suffer because of internal conflicts within the BJP’s “double-engine government.”
Yadav additionally suggested that the recent cabinet reshuffle may be an attempt to remove ineffective ministers and make room for other leaders within the party. He claimed the BJP government is aware that it may not return to power and is therefore more focused on its own interests than on solving public problems. Yogi Adityanath defended his government, stating that uninterrupted electricity supply for citizens, farmers, traders, and industries remains the administration’s top priority. After reviewing the power situation with officials from the Energy Department, Power Corporation, and Discoms, he instructed authorities to ensure smooth and reliable electricity distribution across the state.
Uttar Pradesh Energy Minister AK Sharma also highlighted the government’s efforts, claiming the state had achieved record-breaking electricity supply levels. He said Uttar Pradesh crossed 31,774 MW of peak power supply, describing it as the highest ever recorded in the state and possibly in the country. The political clash over electricity supply comes as preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections begin to intensify, with Yadav increasing his criticism of the BJP government over power outages and recent cabinet reshuffle decisions.
