New Delhi: An Air India flight operating from Bengaluru to Delhi was forced to declare a full emergency while approaching Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport after the cockpit crew received a serious engine-related warning alert during its final descent phase. According to initial aviation inputs, the warning indicator appeared when the aircraft was preparing to land in Delhi. Treating the situation as a potential critical failure, the pilots immediately informed Air Traffic Control and declared a full emergency as a precautionary step, ensuring that maximum ground support was activated before touchdown.
Following standard emergency protocols, fire tenders and airport rescue teams were rapidly deployed and positioned near the runway to handle any possible risk upon landing. The alert led to brief heightened preparedness at the airport, although normal operations were not significantly disrupted. Despite the in-flight warning, the aircraft landed safely at IGI Airport without any injuries reported among passengers or crew members. After landing, the aircraft was guided to a designated area for inspection, and all passengers were safely deboarded.
Preliminary assessments suggest that the warning may have been triggered by a technical glitch or a false sensor indication rather than an actual engine fire or failure. Such false alerts, although uncommon, can occur due to sensor malfunction or system error in modern aircraft monitoring systems. However, aviation authorities have not officially confirmed the exact cause yet.
Air India has initiated a detailed technical inspection of the aircraft to determine the reason behind the warning signal. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is also expected to review the incident as part of its routine safety oversight procedures. Officials confirmed that IGI Airport operations continued smoothly, with only brief precautionary safety measures taken during the aircraft’s landing phase. Further investigation is underway, and more details are expected once technical teams complete their initial findings.
