Officials from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), along with members of the national cricket team, visited hospitals in Kabul to check on those injured in a Pakistani airstrike on a hospital. The players offered support and prayers for the victims’ recovery. Afghanistans ODI and Test captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi, along with teammates Gulbadin Naib and Qais Ahmad, visited Wazir Akbar Khan and Kabul Emergency hospitals, meeting survivors and showing solidarity with victims and their families.
The visit took place amid widespread outrage in Afghanistans cricketing community over reports of significant civilian casualties from the airstrikes. Several players publicly condemned the attacks and demanded accountability. Reports indicate that over 400 people were killed in the airstrike on an addiction treatment hospital in Kabul. Simultaneously, the Pakistani military reportedly launched 124 rockets into Kunar province over a 24-hour period, according to Tolo News.
Officials from the Kunar Directorate of Information and Culture stated that the rocket attacks were scattered across multiple areas of the province, with no casualties reported. Zia-ul-Rahman Spin Ghar, Head of Information at the Directorate, said the attacks near the Durand Line forced many residents to flee their homes. Nearly 7,500 families have reportedly been displaced, moving to safer locations.
Earlier, several Afghan cricketers expressed grief and condemnation over civilian deaths in Kabul due to the Pakistani airstrikes. Rashid Khan, taking to X, expressed being deeply saddened by the reports and called targeting civilian homes, schools, or medical facilities a war crime. He urged the UN and human rights organizations to investigate and hold those responsible accountable, emphasizing solidarity with the Afghan people during this difficult time and expressing hope for national resilience.
