Residents of Leh have stepped forward to donate money, jewellery, precious metals, and other valuables to support people in Iran amid the ongoing West Asia conflict. In a touching gesture, a young girl also broke her piggy bank to contribute to the relief efforts. Donation drives are being held regularly across Ladakh to assist those affected by the recent US-Israeli strikes.
Among the contributions, children even donated their bicycles, symbolizing strong solidarity with Iran. Last week, hundreds from the Shia community gathered at the Imambara in Chanderkot, Jammu and Kashmir, to offer financial and material aid. People donated a wide range of items, from household utensils to gold and silver jewellery, while children contributed their savings.
Women also showed immense generosity by donating their ornaments, including bangles and earrings, sometimes removing them from their children to support those impacted by the conflict. In one instance, a man donated his sheep. Similar efforts were seen in Budgam, where locals contributed cash, gold, and silver.
Acknowledging these acts of kindness, the Iranian Embassy in India expressed deep gratitude on March 22, thanking the people of India, especially those in Kashmir, for their compassion and solidarity. The embassy said such generosity would never be forgotten. These developments come against the backdrop of rising tensions in West Asia following a joint US-Israel military strike on Iran on February 28, which led to the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior officials, triggering a strong response from Tehran.
