Two MBA students die after suspected drug overdose at Mumbai music event; five arrested

Mumbai, April 14 (AHN) A music event held at an exhibition ground in Goregaon, Mumbai, turned tragic after two MBA students allegedly died due to a suspected drug overdose. Till now, five individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the case, including two college students.
According to Vanrai police, both victims died due to an overdose, although the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the medical and forensic reports are received. The investigation is being led by the Vanrai Police, who have already taken three individuals into custody, including one person associated with the event’s organisation.
Meanwhile, the arrests were made following preliminary findings suggesting that prohibited substances may have been consumed during the event.
The deceased have been identified as a 24-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, both students of a reputed MBA college in Mumbai. A 25-year-old woman, who was also present at the event, remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital.
The incident occurred on the night of April 11, when a large number of students attended the concert. Reports suggest that some attendees consumed drugs, with initial suspicion pointing towards substances like MDMA. However, authorities have clarified that the exact nature of the drug will only be confirmed after forensic analysis. The music event witnessed the attendance of nearly 3,000 to 4,000 youths.
Around midnight, several attendees began experiencing severe breathing difficulties, prompting emergency medical assistance. The affected individuals were rushed to nearby hospitals. While the two women were taken to a trauma care centre, the male victim was admitted to a hospital, where he later succumbed.
Police have recorded statements from several students who attended the event. These statements are expected to help authorities trace the source and distribution of the drugs involved.
Among those arrested are event organiser Vihaan alias Akash Samal (31), Sunny Vinod Jain from NESCO Event Organisation and Management, and Balakrishnan Balaram, a member of the internal security team. All the accused have been remanded to three days of police custody.
