Student dies in Rajasthan: Kin alleges death was due to electric shock from school water cooler, refuses to take body

Jaipur, Aug 11 (AHN) A 9-year-old Class 5 student died following an alleged electric shock at a school in Sadulshahar, Sri Ganganagar, on Monday evening. The child’s family has accused the school administration of negligence and has refused to accept the body, demanding an impartial investigation and action against those found responsible.

The incident took place at Bal Bharti School, where the student, identified as Devansh, had reportedly gone to drink water during practice for a tournament. According to his family, he came into contact with an electrically charged water cooler and suffered an electric shock. His leg was also reportedly burned in the incident. Devansh, son of Bhupendra Mehra and a resident of Ward 23, was a Class 5 student at the school.

According to his family, he had been visiting the school every evening for the past four months to participate in tournament practice. The family alleges that the water cooler had an existing electrical leakage problem and that the school management had previously been informed about it.

They claim that the incident could have been prevented had the alleged fault been inspected and repaired in time.

Devansh’s mother and his 12-year-old brother have demanded an impartial enquiry into the incident. The family is seeking action against anyone found responsible after the investigation.

Following the incident, the child’s body was taken to the hospital mortuary. The family has stated that it will not accept or claim the body until action is taken in connection with the incident.

The family’s stand has led to tension and outrage surrounding the incident, with relatives demanding accountability from those responsible for maintaining safety at the school.

Meanwhile, school operator Sarvjit Singh Saran has denied the family’s allegations, calling the claim that the child died due to electrocution baseless.

With conflicting claims emerging from the family and the school management, the exact circumstances and cause of the child’s death remain to be established.
