NFR’s RPF rescues vulnerable people including children, extends timely aid to passengers

Guwahati, July 26 (AHN) The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has intensified its efforts to protect vulnerable children and ensure passenger safety, rescuing several children and extending timely assistance to passengers through sustained vigilance and prompt intervention across its jurisdiction, officials said on Sunday.

NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said that during the current year from January to June 2026, the RPF of NFR has rescued 430 persons, including both male and female, from railway stations and trains across the NFR network, highlighting its sustained commitment towards child protection and passenger safety.

He said that during the period from July 18 to July 20, RPF personnel rescued several minors from different railway stations and trains and ensured their safe handover to the respective Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), Child Help Line and other authorised agencies for proper care and rehabilitation. Among the recent rescue operations, RPF personnel rescued a 12-year-old boy at New Alipurduar Railway Station in West Bengal on July 18 and handed him over to the Child Welfare Committee, Alipurduar.

The CPRO said that on July 19, RPF at New Bongaigaon in Assam rescued four minor girls travelling by train and safely handed them over to the Child Welfare Committee, Bongaigaon for further care. On the same day, RPF at Kishanganj in Bihar rescued a 10-year-old boy from train and handed him over to the Child Help Line, Kishanganj.

RPF personnel at Katihar in Bihar also rescued a 14-year-old girl from Katihar Railway Station and handed her over to Child Line, Katihar, Sharma stated.

In another operation, the RPF Train Escort Party rescued a 14-year-old girl travelling in train and coordinated with the local police for her safe custody and further legal action. During the same operation, an 18-year-old youth was also safely reunited with his father.

According to the official, further demonstrating its commitment to child protection, RPF personnel at Goalpara in Assam rescued a 13-year-old girl from a train on July 20 and handed her over to the Child Welfare Committee, Goalpara. At Kamakhya Railway Station, in Guwahati, the RPF in coordination with NGO representatives, rescued a 16-year-old girl travelling in train and handed her over to the Railway Child Line, Guwahati for safe custody, he stated.

Northeast Frontier Railway remains committed to ensuring a safe and secure railway environment. The Railway Protection Force continues to work in close coordination with Child Welfare Committees, Child Help Line, NGOs and local authorities to protect children in need of care and assistance and reunite them with their families whenever possible, Sharma said.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), headquartered at Maligaon near Guwahati, operates across the Northeastern states as well as in seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of north Bihar.
