Ujjain, April 3 (AHN) In a major infrastructure push ahead of Simhastha Mahakumbh 2028, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, on Friday, announced that a new bypass road will be constructed in Ujjain at a cost of more than Rs 700 crore.
Speaking at the International Conference "Mahakal: The Master of Time", the Chief Minister said the "Bhoomi Pujan" (groundbreaking ceremony) for the ambitious bypass project has been performed.
"This Rs 700 crore bypass road is being developed specially for Simhastha 2028. I congratulate the people of Ujjain on receiving this important gift of modern infrastructure," Chief Minister Yadav added.
Highlighting the global importance of the event, the Chief Minister said, "The Simhastha or Kumbh Mela is not just a festival of one city, one state, or even one nation -- it is the largest congregation in the entire world. Our (BJP) government is fully committed to working shoulder-to-shoulder with all stakeholders to ensure smooth management and coordination for this grand global event."
He emphasised that along with spiritual and scientific development, the state government is also focusing on creating world-class infrastructure facilities in Ujjain to properly host the expected 35 to 40 crore devotees during Simhastha Mahakumbh 2028.
The new bypass road is likely to ease heavy traffic congestion during the mega event and provide better connectivity and smoother movement for pilgrims and visitors.
This announcement comes alongside other major initiatives by the Chief Minister, including plans to develop Ujjain as the "Time Capital" and a modern Science City, reflecting the state government's integrated approach of combining spirituality, science, and infrastructure for Simhastha 2028.
Chief Minister Yadav also announced several other major infrastructure projects for Simhastha Mahakumbh 2028.
These include widening and beautification of key roads leading to Mahakaleshwar Temple, development of new parking zones, modern bus terminals, and upgraded drainage and sewerage systems across the Ujjain city.
The state government has earmarked more than Rs 2,500 crore specifically for infrastructure development in Ujjain in the next two years.
Additional announcements include construction of a new helipad, enhancement of the airport facilities, and development of smart city amenities to ensure world-class experience for the expected pilgrims.
"We are committed to making Simhastha 2028 a grand and well-managed spiritual event on the global stage," the Chief Minister added.
