Bhopal, Aug 1 (AHN) Amid the outstanding performance of Indian athletes at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026, players from Madhya Pradesh have also shone brightly on the international stage. Judo player Yamini Maurya from Sagar and weightlifter Ajay Babu brought laurels to the state by securing silver medals in their respective events.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Vishvas Kailash Sarang have congratulated the duo on their remarkable achievement and announced that both athletes will be awarded Rs 25 lakh each along with government jobs as per the rules.
Minister Sarang clarified that under the state’s sports policy, athletes who win silver medals at the Commonwealth Games are entitled to an incentive of Rs 25 lakh each and are provided with government jobs.
He personally spoke to Yamini Maurya via video call to congratulate her on the silver medal and expressed hope that she would go on to win gold in future competitions.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav extended his best wishes to all Indian medal winners at the Commonwealth Games. He remarked that the discipline, dedication, and hard work shown by the athletes serve as a powerful inspiration for millions of young people across the country.
The Chief Minister specifically congratulated Neeraj Chopra for winning silver and Yashvir Singh for securing bronze in the men’s javelin throw, as well as Tejaswin Shankar for claiming bronze in the decathlon.
He noted that these athletes have significantly enhanced India’s prestige on the global stage through their stellar performances.
Sarang emphasised that the Madhya Pradesh government is committed to providing world-class sports facilities, modern training infrastructure, and comprehensive support to athletes, enabling them to excel consistently at both national and international levels.
Sports Minister Vishvas Kailash Sarang further stated that the success of Madhya Pradesh’s athletes is a matter of immense pride for the entire state. He highlighted Yamini Maurya’s outstanding performance that earned her the silver medal in the women’s 57 kg judo event.
Ajay Babu also delivered a strong showing to clinch silver in weightlifting.
Sarang expressed confidence that athletes from Madhya Pradesh would continue to produce excellent results in upcoming international competitions.
