Manipur ethnic violence: NIA, police arrest 10 accused after multi-location raids

New Delhi, June 19 (AHN) In a coordinated operation with Manipur Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested 10 accused in various cases of ethnic violence in the north-eastern state.
Joint multi-location search operations in the districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Chandel, Pherzawl in Manipur led to the arrest of the accused, allegedly involved in the violent unrest in Manipur, the NIA said in a statement.
Investigations in multiple cases revealed that the accused had played active roles in various incidents of violence during the period of ethnic unrest in Manipur, including attacks on security forces, looting of arms and ammunition, and bank robberies, it said.
The operations, conducted on the basis of extensive intelligence, technical and field investigations by the NIA along with the state police and the central security agency, were focused on identifying and prosecuting individuals, across communities, involved in criminal and terrorist activities in the state, said the NIA.
The NIA expects the arrests to reveal significant information about the planning, execution, and support networks involved in the cases of violence. The agency is also examining possible linkages between the various incidents, as well the individuals and groups involved in the conspiracy.
Friday’s operations were a major step towards supporting the government’s efforts to restore peace, security and normalcy in the state while bringing the perpetrators of the violence to justice, said the NIA.
The anti-terror agency sad Investigations in the various cases registered by NIA in connection with the Manipur violence are continuing and more arrests may take place in future.
In a separate development, the NIA on Friday charge sheeted a second accused in a 2025 Andhra Pradesh case involving the recovery of explosives intended for use in terror acts.
In the charge sheet filed before the Special NIA Court in Vijayawada, accused Shaik Mansoor alias Mohammed Ali alias Vijayakumar has been named under relevant sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, the NIA said in a statement.
A close aide and co-conspirator along with the earlier charge sheeted accused Shaik Amanulla alias Abubakar Siddique, Mohammad Ali was arrested in December 2025 in the case immediately, the NIA said.
