Kolkata, July 26 (AHN) Police complaints have been filed against Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra at various police stations for allegedly using an obscene photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
BJP leader Keya Ghosh has filed a complaint against Sreelekha at Anandapur police station on the southern outskirts of Kolkata on Sunday. Apart from this, it is reported that complaints have been filed against the Bengali actress at various police stations in several districts, including Bidhannagar Cyber Crime police station.
On July 24, people united on the streets of Kolkata against the NEET question paper leak and demanding the resignation of then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Sreelekha Mitra also joined the protest. At that time, she took a picture with a poster in her hand. It is alleged that an obscene picture of the Prime Minister was displayed on that poster.
Based on that incident, complaints were filed against Mitra.
However, according to police sources, no FIR has been registered yet. It will be decided after the initial investigation whether an FIR will be filed or not. So far, a complaint has been filed under sections 352 (incitement to breach of peace), 353 (publicly abetting provocative conduct) and 356 (defamation) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The actress herself has already spoken out on the matter. She said, "A picture of me standing holding a special poster has gone viral. I may be anti-BJP. But calling me a traitor is very funny. It is equally funny if someone thinks that I deliberately took that picture and stood holding it in my hand!"
The actress further stated that she joined the protest on Friday by going to the field. She also walked with students and youth. She could not see the poster well as she did not have glasses. She said, "I forgot to bring my glasses. I only brought sunglasses." She claimed that she could not see Modi’s picture on the poster properly because of the crowd.
Sreelekha further said that at that time, the police were lathi-charging. She did not even turn the poster to see what kind of picture of PM Modi was there.
BJP leader Keya Ghosh said that she is angry not as a party leader but as a citizen of the country after seeing such a picture of the Prime Minister. Her appeal is, "For sharing such an ugly picture, appropriate action should be taken against Sreelekha as per the law. Strict punishment is required for such an act. She should be arrested immediately. Otherwise, we will go to court."
