CM Adhikari to lead 'Gerua Samman Yatra' in Kolkata on Sep 9 to spread awareness about saffron colour

Kolkata, Sep 6 (AHN) The West Bengal-led state government is taking a fresh initiative to spread awareness about the greatness of saffron colour.

Especially, in the last few days, the state has witnessed incidents of disrespect towards saffron. Therefore, the work of creating awareness is starting anew, a state government official said on Sunday.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is taking the leading role as under his leadership, a 'Gerua Samman Yatra' is going to be held in Kolkata on September 9.

The people across the state have been urged to join the procession from Golpark to Jadavpur in Kolkata.

A social media post regarding the 'Gerua Samman Yatra' was made public on Sunday.

It is learnt that the procession will start on September 9 at 3 p.m which will start from Golpark and conclude in Jadavpur.

"It said that saffron is not just a colour, it is a symbol of sacrifice, dedication and traditional tradition. Therefore, the Chief Minister himself is joining this procession with the aim of respecting saffron and spreading its greatness anew."

Chief Minister Adhikari said that several times before that no disrespect will be tolerated against the saffron colour.

Even a few days ago, the Chief Minister had raised strong objections to a phrase against saffron colour in a newspaper.

He felt that the association of the word 'Tandav' with saffron has belittled its greatness.

Besides, it is believed that there is another purpose to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's 'Gerua Samman Yatra'.

The aim of the procession is to send a specific message against the recent unrest at Jadavpur University.

The Chief Minister had earlier said that 'nationalism' would be established in the university, which has been allegedly singing the tune of 'anti-nationalism'.

In line with that, a section of the university students had erased all the slogans of the Leftist student organisation from the walls of the campus and written nationalist slogans on Saturday.

Some believe that Chief Minister's 'Gerua Samman Yatra' to Jadavpur next week actually wants to strengthen the establishment of that nationalism.
