Centre committed in protecting future of students: Assam CM

Guwahati, July 24 (AHN) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday welcomed the Centre’s decision to establish fast‑track courts for the speedy trial of cases related to the alleged NEET paper leak, saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Government is committed to protecting the interests and future of students.

Sharing PM Modi’s message on social media, Sarma said the proposed fast‑track courts would help ensure swift justice against those accused of compromising the integrity of one of the country’s most important entrance examinations.

“The interests and future of the youth of the country remain the highest priority of the double‑engine Government. Fast‑track courts will be established to ensure the expeditious disposal of cases related to the NEET paper leak so that those responsible are brought to justice at the earliest,” the Chief Minister said in a post on X.

He further stated that the Prime Minister has directed the concerned authorities to initiate all necessary measures for implementing the decision without delay. According to Sarma, the move reflects the Centre’s resolve to safeguard students and maintain the credibility of the country’s examination system.

“This is an important step towards protecting the interests of students. Anyone attempting to play with the future of the youth will face strict legal consequences,” he added.

The Chief Minister’s remarks came against the backdrop of continuing protests by students and opposition parties over alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility‑cum‑Entrance Test (NEET), one of India’s largest medical entrance examinations.

The issue has triggered widespread political debate, with opposition parties demanding accountability from the Centre and calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged lapses in the conduct of the examination.

The Prime Minister’s announcement on setting up fast‑track courts follows recent demonstrations in the national capital, including the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), during which students and supporters demanded a transparent investigation into the alleged paper leak and stricter action against those involved.

The Central Government has maintained that it is committed to ensuring a fair investigation into the alleged examination malpractice and reiterated that all individuals found guilty would face stringent legal action. The proposed fast‑track courts are intended to accelerate the judicial process and ensure timely disposal of cases arising out of examination‑related offences.
