Bihar: Over 1,000 litres of liquor seized in Purnea, Jamui

Patna, Aug 27 (AHN) Bihar Police have intensified their crackdown on liquor smuggling across the state, with major seizures reported in Purnea and Jamui districts on Thursday.

Acting on the directions of the Purnea SP, Banmankhi police raided Nipaniya village after receiving information about the delivery of a large liquor consignment.

A special team led by Banmankhi SDPO Shailesh Pritam, along with SHO Sanjay Kumar, conducted the raid and seized 924 litres of Indian‑Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), estimated at around Rs 9 lakh.

Police arrested Dinesh Yadav, a resident of Nipaniya village, in connection with the alleged smuggling operation. After interrogation, police sent him to judicial custody.

Investigators are now trying to determine the source of the consignment and identify others allegedly connected to the supply network.

In a separate operation in Jamui’s Chandramandi police station area, police intercepted a Swift car near Chiraiya Bridge during a vehicle‑checking drive based on a tip‑off.

The search resulted in the seizure of approximately 144 litres of foreign liquor and beer, comprising around 185 bottles of liquor and 29 bottles of beer.

Jamui police arrested two people, including Ajit Kumar, a resident of the Jamui Town police station area, and Vikas Kumar, an assistant driver from Fatehpur village in the adjoining Lakhisarai district.

Preliminary questioning reportedly indicated that the consignment had been transported from Barakar in West Bengal and was intended for distribution in Jamui town and surrounding areas.

Police are investigating whether the accused are connected to a wider liquor‑smuggling network operating across Jamui and Lakhisarai.

Police also seized the Swift car and registered an FIR against the two accused under relevant provisions.

Police are continuing efforts to identify the alleged supplier, intended recipients and other locations where the liquor was to be distributed.

The two operations underline the continuing police crackdown on illicit liquor transportation and distribution in Bihar.
