Bihar: Kidnapped youth rescued in Muzaffarpur; 4 mobile snatchers held

Patna, Aug 10 (AHN) In a swift police operation, a kidnapped youth was rescued safely within two hours of the abduction in Muzaffarpur, while two alleged kidnappers were arrested in connection with a Rs 50,000 ransom demand, an official said on Monday.

The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Jajuar Outpost in the Katra police station area. According to police, the youth had left his home for the market on the evening of August 9. While on his way, two men allegedly intercepted him on a motorcycle and abducted him.

The accused subsequently contacted the youth’s father and demanded Rs 50,000 as ransom. Based on the father’s complaint, police registered Case No. 208/26 at Jajuar Outpost.

Considering the seriousness of the incident, a special team was formed on the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police. The team operated under the supervision of the Rural Superintendent of Police and was led by the East‑1 Sub‑Divisional Police Officer, along with the Jajuar Outpost in‑charge.

Using mobile surveillance, technical inputs and human intelligence, the police tracked the suspects and successfully rescued the youth within approximately two hours.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Manjay Kumar and Sunil Kumar, both residents of the Jajuar Outpost area. During the operation, police allegedly recovered a country‑made pistol, four live cartridges, the victim’s mobile phone and the motorcycle used in the crime.

Police said interrogation has revealed a significant criminal record against Manjay Kumar. Several cases, including allegations related to robbery, dacoity and violations of the Arms Act, are registered against him at multiple police stations across Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga and Sitamarhi districts.

Police are continuing to interrogate both accused to determine whether other individuals were involved in the alleged kidnapping and ransom conspiracy.

In a separate operation, Patna Police on Monday arrested four people in connection with a mobile‑snatching incident reported from Marine Drive, also known as JP Ganga Path, on the evening of August 5.

Police said the arrests were made as part of an investigation into a series of mobile‑snatching incidents reported in the Marine Drive area. Three suspects, Aditya, Shiva and Gopi, all residents of the Ramkrishna Nagar police station area, were initially arrested.

Based on information obtained during preliminary interrogation, police subsequently traced and arrested their alleged fourth accomplice, Rahul Kumar, from the Kankarbagh area.

Police recovered seven stolen or snatched mobile phones from the accused. The motorcycle allegedly used in the August 5 incident at Marine Drive was also seized.

Police are now working to identify and return the recovered mobile phones to their rightful owners. Station House Officer of Alamganj police station, Rahul Thakur, said the criminal records of all four arrested individuals are being examined. Investigators are also looking into whether the gang may have been involved in other mobile‑snatching incidents across Patna.

A case has been registered under the relevant legal provisions, and further investigation and legal proceedings are underway.
