Assam govt sanctions Rs 41.67 crore subsidy for flood‑hit PM Surya Ghar beneficiaries

Guwahati, July 31 (AHN) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced that the state government has approved Rs 41.67 crore towards the pending state subsidy under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana for 9,289 beneficiaries in flood‑affected areas, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting families impacted by the ongoing floods.

In a post on social media platform X, Sarma said the assistance would benefit households in the four districts currently affected by flooding. “As floods affect four districts of Assam, our government stands firmly with every affected family,” the Chief Minister said.

He added that apart from relief and rehabilitation measures already underway, the government has sanctioned Rs 41.67 crore under the pending state subsidy component of the PM Surya Ghar scheme for eligible beneficiaries residing in the flood‑hit districts.

Sarma said he has directed the Power Department to ensure that the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) transfers the approved subsidy directly into the bank accounts of all 9,289 beneficiaries by Tuesday.

The announcement comes as the state continues relief and rehabilitation efforts in areas affected by the latest wave of floods, with authorities providing food, shelter, medical assistance and restoring essential services.

In a separate post, the Chief Minister expressed appreciation for the personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other agencies engaged in rescue and relief operations across the affected districts.

Sarma said the rescue teams have been working tirelessly since the onset of the floods, carrying out evacuation operations and delivering essential relief materials to stranded residents despite challenging conditions.

“Ever since the floods began, brave jawans of NDRF and SDRF along with other agencies have been constantly on the ground, rescuing people and delivering life‑saving items,” he said.

The Chief Minister also paid tribute to the rescue personnel for their dedication and courage, stating that their selfless service in floodwaters has helped save lives and ensure timely assistance reaches affected communities.

The Assam government has continued to intensify relief, rescue and rehabilitation measures as floodwaters impact several parts of the state.
