New Delhi, Aug 24 (AHN) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday paid tribute to former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley on his death anniversary, remembering him as an incisive legal expert, masterful speaker and ace administrator whose contribution to public life and governance continues to inspire young leaders.
“Remembering Arun Jaitley Ji on his Punyatithi. An incisive legal expert, a masterful speaker and an ace administrator, Jaitley Ji contributed to taking the policies of the govt to the masses through impactful communication and played a crucial role in executing the game-changing policies of the government. His enduring legacy will continue to inspire young leaders,” HM Shah posted on X.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid his respects to the former Union Minister, describing him as a skilled administrator and an outstanding parliamentarian with deep knowledge of constitutional and legal matters.
“On the death anniversary of former Union Minister, Shri Arun Jaitley ji, humble tribute to him. Proficient in subjects like the Constitution and law, Arun ji was a skilled administrator and an outstanding parliamentarian. His deep understanding, foresight, and logical perspective on politics and policy matters will always remain inspiring. His dedication to the nation's interest and his invaluable contribution to public life will always be remembered,” Rajnath Singh posted on X.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar remembered Jaitley as a friend and mentor to many, highlighting his wisdom, warmth and commitment to public service.
“Warmly remember Shri Arun Jaitley ji on his Punya Tithi today. A friend & mentor to so many, his wisdom, warmth, & commitment to public service continue to inspire,” Jaishankar said.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute to the former Union Finance Minister, recalling his contribution to nation-building and his sharp political and intellectual insights.
“On the death anniversary of former Union Finance Minister, 'Padma Vibhushan' Arun Jaitley, humble tribute. His contribution to the building of a strong nation and his sharp thoughts will forever remain unforgettable and inspiring,” Yogi Adityanath posted on X.
Arun Jaitley (1952-2019) was a prominent Indian politician, lawyer and senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He held several key positions in the Union government, including Union Finance Minister, Defence Minister, Minister of Corporate Affairs, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, and Minister of Law and Justice.
As Finance Minister, Jaitley played a central role in several major economic and tax policy initiatives of the Narendra Modi government, most notably the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). He was also known for his strong parliamentary interventions, legal expertise and ability to communicate complex policy matters effectively.
Jaitley passed away on August 24, 2019, at the age of 66. He was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour, in 2020 for his contribution to public affairs.
